There's a bluebird box near our house by the garden, and this is a bluebird on one of our pasture fence posts. An older gentleman I knew made bluebird houses and gave them out to visitors from a stash in his basement. He knew the plight of bluebirds, and how other birds steal from their nests and wreck them.
We really appreciate the birds here, bluebirds, scarlet tanagers, bobwhites, and plenty more. Hearing a bobwhite do its mating flight is one of my favorite summer pastimes. It goes way up high in the sky and then circles back down.
Not mowing much means we're not destroying bird habitat. We even left a multiflora rose standing because it had a bird nest in it. And grazing seems to be bringing more birds to the farm.
